CNC Machinist

Job Summary

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC equipment to manufacture precision components used in aerospace applications. This role works from engineering drawings and specifications to produce high-quality parts that meet strict tolerance and quality standards. The CNC Machinist collaborates closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to support both production and custom fabrication projects.

Essential Functions

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills and lathes, to produce precision components.
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications, including GD&T.
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for machining operations.
  • Load, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs (G-code) as needed.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Ensure all parts meet required tolerances, quality standards, and customer specifications.
  • Identify and resolve machining issues, including tool wear, offsets, and machine performance.
  • Support prototype, custom, and low-volume production work.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and inspection results.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or machining coursework preferred.
  • 2 or more years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment; aerospace experience preferred.
  • Proficiency operating CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with G-code programming and editing.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metal materials.
  • Requires standing for extended periods and lifting materials as needed.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
